Abstract
The pr in cipal purpose of the research ent itl ed "Teaching learning difficulties in three se lected
government prim ary sc hools of Addis Ababa in case of de stitute students" by Nefisa Mohammed
o was to understand that the presence of destitute students in se lected government primary schools
created teaching learning difficulties. To reali ze the objectives of the study, data were co ll ected
from three selected government primary sc ho ols. Teachers, Parents Studentd Teachers Union
(PSTU) leader and few parents were interviewed. Other teachers and purposive ly se lected
dest itute students participated in the questionnaire. The researcher also made focus group
discussion (FGD) with destitute students. Observations were made in two of the three se lected
schoo ls because the researcher couldn ' t do it in Weyra Primary Schoo l due to extraordinary
meetings. The findings revealed that destitute stud ents are th e causes of teaching learnin g
difficulties. The problems behind destitute students are source of teaching learning di fficulty.
School staffs and other stakeholders' intervention reduced students' prob lem but st ill there are
destitute students who are not included with destitute students in case of shortage and three
schoo ls are doing their support with alarm of shortage of supply to destitute students feed in g
program . On the other way, teachers' involvement in destitute stude nts ' case reduced their
teaching time and students le a rning tim e as per the schools schedule. This is sensitive case that
needs so luti on since it affects teaching learning time. Stud ent s being indi ffe rent types of problem
made th em to be found in learning difficulty. The problem seems upgraded st ill it takes
concerned teacher teaching time and it mad e other students who couldn 't be included und er the
supporting umbrella keep them still in learning difficulty in cause of shortage. Since the
supportin g act ivities are not in sustainab le manner and the problems seem to rise up again,
appropriate attent ion is needed from concerned bodies such as policy makers and other stake
holders to contr ol the problem.
