Abstract
The study was conducted to explore Practices and Predicaments of Tourism Club for Domestic Tourism Development: Evidences from Kolfe Keranio Sub City, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. “Know-Your-Country’’ club as part of tourism club is established in various government and private bureau to encourage and promote domestic tourism activities and create awareness for the community. The absence of empirical work on this title including the role and challenges the club encountering has not been investigated. The overall objective of this study was to assess Practices and Predicaments of “Know-Your-Country’’ Club for Domestic Tourism Development in Kolfe Keranio Sub City. Methodologically, the philosophical view of this study was pragmatism that opens doors for application of multiple methods including quantitative and qualitative approach. Both probability and non-probability sampling techniques, including purposive, convenient and simple random sampling were employed to generate data. In this study, both open and close-ended questionnaires were designed and distributed for 294 respondents to capture the background of the respondents, and also conducted interview with manager of club and experts from concerned body. The result revealed that the main objective of “Know-Your-Country’’ club in Kolfe Keranio Sub City is traveling to new destinations and creating awareness for local community about domestic tourism. “Know-Your-Country’’ club is playing significant role for the development of domestic tourism activities and increase the culture of travel in the society. The host communities such as: tour guides, ticket sellers, reception, and manager of areas in selected tourism destinations were also assessed in this study. The result indicates that few of “Know-Your-Country’’ club members are participating in host community activities including; social service and environmental conservation. However, the clubs are faced financial, human resource, integration and training problem. To reduce this challenges and problems the concerned body like Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ethiopian Tourism Organization, host community and other stakeholders should work in collaboration.
