dc.description.abstractThe fields of public relations have dramatically grown to build the relationships between an organization and its key publics through effective communication. The study is conducted to assess the practice and challenge of Public Relations inKotebe Metropolitan University. The research used mixed approaches which enable the researchers to use both qualitative and quantitate data and analysis. The main subject of the study was PR practitioners,students and department heads. The researcher used interview, FGD and questionnaire as data collecting tool from the above subjects. The findings of the study described that Public Relations practice in the study area is in a difficult condition.The directorate is not professionally and structurally organized, lack of skilled and professional human power The PR practitioners have not well understood and practiced the PR strategy. Even the PR tools have not been used properly only focused on leaflet and notice bored. The role of PRis misunderstood; it is considered stage facilitator and meeting organizer.Lack of attention from concerned bodies,lack of trust from stake holders,lack of PR strategic frame work and focused on routine works took the first line as challenges for the public relations practice. Therefore the researcher has recommended that PR department should be well organized and strengthens, the department should be headed by a public relations professional, PR department should have clear & defined roles, set clear and well defied strategic framework. Establish and maintain good relationship with domestic and international media so as to reach internal public as well as stakeholders. It is also recommended that PR department should be empowered through engaging in decision making.en_US
