dc.description.abstractProject monitoring and control is an important element in project management practice which should give real-time information to the stakeholders about the progress of the programs and/or the projects for decision making. The proper practice of project monitoring and control practice leads to project success. The main objective of the study was to identify the project monitoring and control practice in the organizations and to examine the effect of project monitoring and control practice on project success in the case of level one consultants registered for architectural and engineering service located in Addis Ababa. To achieve the objective of the study Explanatory and Descriptive research design were used. Quantitative research approach was used as a research method and five-point Likert scale-based questioner were distributed to 143 sampled and randomly selected organizations. Data was collected from 140 respondents and analyzed using SPSS version 26. The results of the analysis of the collected data shows that the monitoring and control practice and the degree of project success of grade one consultants registered for architectural and engineering service in Addis Ababa are at moderate good condition and the overall project monitoring and controlling process is found to have strong positive effect on the project success. The study recommends that organization need to focus on project monitoring and controlling practice especially on the project progress meeting and project change control area as they have significant impact on the project success. In order to reduce the project change request and to complete the projects as per the planned time limit, the organization need to have well defined and structured change control procedure in the beginning of each project and also it should be followed according to the structured procedures. To achieve an excellent project monitoring and control practice, the organization should have well documented meetings and progress report for future references
