Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the monitoring and evaluation practice of ETETE Construction, which is among grade one building constructor and one of the highly emerging companies in Ethiopia. The objective of the study was to assess the current practice, challenges, and benefits of monitoring and evaluation. To achieve these objectives descriptive research design was used, and the necessary data for the study were collected from 40 employees who were directly related to the projects of the companies. In this study since the population size is manageable census is used. The study solely uses Primary data which was collected through a self-administered questionnaire and the response rate is 92.5%. After data cleaning and coding the analysis is done using descriptive statistics. The findings of this study reviled that ETETE Construction is poorly practicing monitoring and evaluation in its projects. Monitoring and evaluation procedure lacked a well-organized framework and a consistent format or set of guidelines. The other findings of the study about the challenges that impede the monitoring and evaluation practice show that resource shortage, financial problems, and lack of management support are among the major challenges. On the other hand, the respondents agree on many of the benefits of monitoring and evaluation practice which is missed by the company. Finally, based on the findings of the study potential recommendations are provided on how the company should understand the significance of the M&E system and improve the poor practice observed in the study. Establishing or developing written M&E plan/guidelines or framework, providing continuous staff training to equip them with the practice, availing all the necessary resources on time, and if all these possible resolutions will be tough to practice by the company outsource the monitoring and evaluation for other professional companies are recommended.
