| dc.description.abstract | This research work attempted to examine the practice and challenges in applying development journalism in Oromia Broadcasting Network (OBN), through examining the development issue coverage and challenges faced to apply Development journalism principles. Its focus was on a practical nature of development program coverage and challenges in ‘Ardaa Marii’ TV talk show program of OBN. Data were collected through in-depth interview, Observation and content analysis. Content sample of broadcast ‘Ardaa Marii’ TV talk show programs and the responses of the professional’s obtained in interview was analyzed qualitatively. As the research indicate that, Journalists are facing different obstacles in investigating and exposing issues related to corruption and luck of good governance in government offices. Because ‘Ardaa Marii’ TV talk show program is sponsored by governmental or non-government sectors. This means, they determine the content and participants of the program. In this case producers of the program are event oriented, Structural censorship of government, Resource limitation (human, Material and financial), journalists Self-censorship is another obstacle too, weaknesses of media leaders to enforce the policy makers, lower level of Public culture of participation on the discussion of ‘Ardaa Marii’ program and information exchange, lower understanding of the editorial policy of the media house by government officials and their perception of Development Journalism as reporting a development success issues only, and reporting the failure or bad doing of the sectors are challenging the practice. | en_US |
