dc.description.abstractBackground: An integrative and comprehensive approach is required to scale up youth utilization of sexual and reproductive health service especially facility based. This requires baseline survey of youth users of RHS and the quality service offered. Objective: The objective of the study was to assess factors affecting reproductive health services utilization among Bahir Dar university students. Method: Institutional based cross sectional study was conducted among 848 Bahir Dar University students from March to May 2015, using a multi stage sampling technique. Self administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. The collected data was entered and analyzed using SPSS version 20. Result: Of the total participants the utilization of reproductive health services was 33.7% FP, 66.6% VCT, 58.1% STI treatment and 71.2% abortion among the pregnant females. Students whose religion prohibits them to utilize FP were 47% less users of FP than those who are not prohibited at AOR: 0.53, 95%CI (0.3, 0.91). Students who had multiple sexual partners in the last three months were 3.84 times more VCT service users than student with single partner AOR: 3.84, 95% CI(2.04,7.23). Students who had multiple sexual partners were 3.59 times more Abortion service users than student with single partner AOR: 3.59, 95% CI (1.5, 25.71). Conclusion: Age, cultural prohibition, religious prohibition, distance of service providing facility from dormitory and service providing professionals attitude are some of the factors which are found to affect RH service utilization among the university students.
