Abstract

A developing country like Ethiopia is facing a challenge in the international market because of the highly stringent and strict quality requirements of the well-developed county. This is because of an immature national quality infrastructure in a country, this will reduce a business's capability to explore market opportunities, unable to compete on international markets, and limited to participate in the global value chains. Because of this, the Ethiopian Government has undertaken different reformation for upgrading the National Quality infrastructure System in order to reduce the obstacles and enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing and service sectors in the international trade. Among those efforts the government had received a fund from the world bank group to strengthening the capacity of the national quality infrastructure institutes. The aim of this project paper is to assess the project management implementation practices. A descriptive type of study is used to evaluate the practices of project implementation & Project management knowledge areas like scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, stakeholders, procurement, communication etc. A purposive sampling technique is used to gather the primary data using a web based and hard copy questionnaire instrument. The collected data is analyzed with SPSS version 27 software. Mean and standard deviation is used for interpretation of the data that was collected. As per the findings, most of the project activities were managed properly, however with regard to project activities were not effectively completed, the practices for scheduling tools and technique like CPM or PERT is not good, there is a limitation in addressing the risk timely, appropriate HR management tool are not applied to motivate and reward the employee, project is not closed properly and there is a limitation in the effective communication and dissemination of information to the stakeholders. This shows that the project is implemented effectively even though there is a limitation with same activities. The project implementation unit of NQI institutes have to give high attention for a best project management practice properly
