dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to investigate the role of World Taekwondo (TKD) training on the well-being of adolescents in Addis A baba. The study examined the nature of taekwondo training, benefits and problems of practicing taekwondo, and the subjective well-being (SWB) of adolescents in different groups. A concurrent mixed method research design was used. Questionnaires and in-depth interviews were the major data collection procedures. A total number of 116 taekwondo adolescents and four coaches ji'om four taekwondo clubs participated in the study. Results of the studysholVed that: (1) the taekwondo training provided by thefour participant clubs was more of a modern/sport form of taekwondo ; (2) taeJo.vondo adolescents and coaches perceived that the benefits oftaeJo.vondo for adolescents are multifaceted, i.e., social benefits, physical benefits, mental benefits, self-defense, addiction avoidance, and other benejits; (3) taeJo.vondo adolescents had high level (mean points) of subjective well-being as measured by the Personal Well-being index-School Children (PWi-SC), i.e., 8 1.95 (95%Ci: 79. 70 to 84.20); (4) there was no statistically significant diffe rence among the three groups of taeJo.vondo adolescents (lower level belts (M=83.89), middle level belts (lvl = 80.38), and higher level belts(lvl = 79.55) when compared based on their mean points of PWi -SC (F(2, 8i) = 1.58, p > .05.); and (5) though majority (63.6%) of the respondents claimed that they did notface any problelll as a result of practicing taekwondo, the following were identified as major problems that could threaten the well-being of taekwondo adolescents: f amily related problems, community related problems, and competition related problems. Overall, the results of this study indicated that the training oftaelovondo can have a multifaceted positive contribution to adolescents' well-being.en_US
