| dc.description.abstract | This study set out to research the lived experiences of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients in the Ethiopian context particularly those included in Tesfa Association for kidney patients. Considering the huge limitation of research carried out to investigate the direct experience of ESRD patients in our country this research aims to meticulously understand the biopsychosocial and economic experience of ESRD patients from their own perspective. The researcher employed qualitative hermeneutic phenomenology research design in investigating the direct experience of the patients. Therefore, the research mainly employed interpretation of the experiences of the participants. Through purposive sampling technique, ten participants were made part of the research. The research participants comprised six male and four female patients that were on dialysis treatment for more than two years and members of the association. In-depth interviews were carried out while participants were on their dialysis secession. After every interview, all the interview data were transcribed into written format and analyzed through thematic analysis approach. Therefore, by utilizing thematic analysis, recurring and key themes that emerged in the interview process were organized based on biopsychosocial and economic perspectives of research participants. The findings of the research revealed various adverse experiences of participants in relation to medical condition and treatment process significantly affecting the psychological ,social and economic situations of participants and vice versa. This calls for social work intervention and informs government officials, health centers and policy makers the demanding nature of ESRD and hemodialysis. This informs stakeholders in devising possible reforms to increase the quality of life of the population under study. The study also shows the demand for multidisciplinary team involvement in dialysis centers for tackling the issues ESRD patients undergo on a daily basis.
