Existing Government and Non-Governmental Support System Programmes to Respond to the Issue of Street Children in Addis Ababa City Administration

Abstract
Children are forced to live on the streets for a variety of socioeconomic reasons. This study aimed to shed light on the responses of the government and non-governmental organizations response to the needs of street children living on the streets of Addis Ababa. The study has viewed that there are two different types of response processes in effect when it comes to street children in Addis Ababa City Administration. These responses are implemented as in by the project-based response and fully government funded sponsored response. This program is financially supported by the government budget and the World Bank fund. The responsiveness to the needs of street children was studied through interviews with 11 respondents who work directly on the program from both government and non-government agencies. A descriptive qualitative approach was used in the investigation. Non-probability judgmental sampling was used to choose the respondents. The programs established to support the street children are through a forcibly and voluntarily means of actions support for the street children. The strategy included locating hotspot areas, engagement, rehabilitation, life skills training, family and community reunification, and reintegration of these street children. The replies from the key informants were provided to establish a comprehensive knowledge of how the program of the support system dealt with street children. The themes of intervention, stakeholder participation, implementation, challenges, and program sustainability give strong signs that the focus on street children was represented in those areas. The BOWCSA has stepped up the overall execution, and various stakeholders are involved. The study has concluded that the government monitor and assess of each response by contracting NGO organization to implement the program. The study also included social work implications to highlight potential directions
