This study aims at reconstructing the Ethiopic version of Bärälam Wä-Yéwaséf. The text is secpculated to have been first composed in Hindu, Sanscrit language and it has been translated into syriac and Arabic. The first Arabic version was translated in the 8th century. However, the Geez version was translted from Arabic vorlage in the first half of the 16th century by Éccäge Énbaqom of Däbrä Libanos. There are ten copies of BY that are collected for the purpose of text reconstruction so as to produce a hypothetical text that is assumed to be the archetype of the whole ms. tradition; the nearest to the lost original of the AR. The collected witnesses cover the range between the age of 17 th and 20 thc. mss. The main objective of the study was critical edition and translation of the Ethiopic AR using the “Neo-Lachmannian” method. Thus, the researcher has drawn the stemma codicum using conjunctive errors. To undertake a work of critical edition and annotated translation ten MSS were collected and collated to be used for the critical edition based on the common innovations they share forming a bipartite stemma. The hypothetical relationship of the witnesses to their ancestor is formulated as: Ω= (α [γ (A1+A2+B) + δ (E1 + P)] + β [ε (E2 + J + O + T) + L]), and the emendation process took place based on this formula. The variants are summarized in the critical apparatus under the respective sections in editing the text, and the edited text is translated into English with annotations. The research has also been organized into
