dc.description.abstractThe main objective of this research was to explore the factors which helps in the retention of volunteers in a volunteer based societies for a longer period. Ethiopian Red Cross Society is the non-profit organizations. Volunteer in the society drop out at a fast pace due to many reasons like lack of proper management, motivation, dissatisfaction. The researcher decided to know how retaining their volunteers and if and how this work could be improved. The research in this paper done in both quantitative and qualitative approaches were employed in a triangulation form to address the objectives of this study. Primary data was collected using a 5 item likert scaled questionnaire from 239 volunteers from 248 expected sample size. The management practice correlates were investigated for their ability to act as determinants of volunteer retention using mediating variables volunteer motivation and volunteer satisfaction. Descriptive statistics using regression analysis were used to analyze the relationship of the dependent variable and the independent variables of the research. To improve volunteer retention by improving the effectiveness of volunteer screening, selecting, support, and training as well as volunteer recognition and performance management but through volunteer motivation and volunteer satisfaction. To access volunteer management practice and volunteer retention to understand the relationship between volunteer management practice factors and volunteer retention. The empirical findings that the researcher gathered from the questionnaire and interviews provided insight in the society that the researcher had hoped for as well as answers to the main questions in a sufficient way.en_US
