| dc.description.abstract | This case study is about fixed line service failure and recovery performance of Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation. The relevant data were collected through both secondary and primary sources. The data was analyzed using qualitatively and simple statistical tools like percentages, averages, frequency and totals. Cause and effect diagram was used in identifying the major causes of service failure and delay in service recovery. Aging of cables, poor quality of apparatus, theft, damages due to construction of roads and buildings, installation of water pipelines and electric lines by respective organization were found the major causes of fixed line service failure. The average failure rate for all zone offices during the last five years were 67.2% out of average 399413 connected lines. In relation to delay in service recovery, the major causes were work overload and lengthy process to complete legal process. Based on these, it is recommended that ETC should take proactive measures in relation to old network maintenance and should work closely with other organizations like Addis Ababa police, Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation, Ethiopian water and Sewerage authority, Road authority, and Ethiopian quality and standard authority. | en_US |
