dc.description.abstractThe study attempted to explore the problems of inclusive education on the psychosocial and academic achievement of deaf students with particular reference to Mekanisa School for the deaf. Qualitative study design is used to explore the problems of inclusive education on the psychosocial development and academic achievements of deaf students. The empirical data is collected based on interviews. Using purposive sampling teclmique ten respondents had been selected as study participants. Out of which four deaf students from grades 7 and 8 of the selected school and three parents and three teachers for the interview were selected. The study was conducted at Mekanisa School for the deaf who is found in Addis Ababa. The findings of the study show that deaf students have encountered some social problems at the inclusive schoo l settings. The social problems deaf students in this study faced are related to the friendship formation with hearing peers, conmlunication barriers with parents and to some extent with teachers and hearing peers this was mainly attributed with lack of sign language on the part of parents, teachers and hearing peers . . Deaf students of this study haven't faced serious psychological problems. However, it was revealed in the study that deaf students sometimes show aggressiveness with their social interaction and being easily disappointed if their needs are not meet as they demand .Moreover, they sometimes show feel ing of llI1loved ,md un wanted in some cases. On the other hand, the finding of the study also revealed that deaf students were not able to achieve better result as their hearing peers though they were integrated. Moreover, it was found that deaf students usually perform less in their education and consequently, they fe lt di ssati sfaction with their school work at the inclu sive educational settings.en_US
