Abstract
Job stress is considered as the harmful physical and emotional response that occurs when there is a
poor match between job demand and capability, resource or need of the employee. Job satisfaction
describes how comfortable an individual is with own job. This research was carried out to compute
the effect of job stress on employee job satisfaction in two selected brewery factories (Heineken and
BGI Ethiopia) in Addis Ababa. To achieve the objectives of this study, information was gathered
through self-administered questionnaire from a sample of 273 respondents. These respondents were
selected using random sampling technique. The data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed
using statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, correlation, simple linear regression and
multiple regression analysis. In particular, this study analyzes the effects of job stress on job
satisfaction by using six stressors—work overload, role ambiguity, role conflict, physical
environment, job autonomy and relationship at work. The results of this study indicate that role
conflict, role ambiguity and work overload negatively affect job satisfaction whereas relationship at
work and job autonomy positively affect job satisfaction the study also shows that physical
environment has insignificant relationship with job satisfaction. Based on the findings of the study,
some recommendations forwarded; only a single supervisor should give commands to the
employees, Making clear employee’s responsibility and giving adequate information concerning
their role, Improving technology by using advance technology , Closer relationships among
employees and granting high autonomy increases job satisfaction.
