Abstract
The primary aim of this study was to thoroughly assess the contract administration practices of Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics (ESL) specifically in the context of inland
port and terminal construction projects. This included the identification of challenges related to contract administration within ESL and proposing recommendations for
improvement. The literature review encompassed an in-depth exploration of relevantstudies and theories related to contract administration and project management,
providing a comprehensive overview of key concepts and empirical studies. To achieve this, a descriptive research design was employed, utilizing both primary and
secondary data sources. The study targeted the population from three key departmentswithin ESL: port and facility, procurement, plan and business development. A sample size
of 45 participants was purposefully selected using a non-probability sampling techniqueto ensure the representation of diverse perspectives and experiences.
Several significant findings emerged from the study. These included the identification ofstaff shortages affecting inspection practices, highlighting the importance of
documentation for capturing lessons learned from contract implementation, andemphasizing the value of utilizing periodic meetings with stakeholders to enhance project
quality and compliance. Based on these findings, the study offers actionablerecommendations for ESL. It advises addressing challenges such as staff shortages,
enhancing documentation practices, and leveraging stakeholder engagement forinspections, as crucial steps towards enhancing the delivery of ESL’s inland port and
terminal construction initiatives.
