Abstract
The thesis, titled The Impact of Global Alliances on Liner Shipping Business Performance:
The Case of ESLSE is aimed at assessing and determining the impacts that global carrier
alliances have on liner shipping business performance. In doing so, various documents for
literature review were referred from various sources. As a methodology, explanatory
research design was used, while quantitative research approach for this study was
employed. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. Population of
the study is ESLSE’s employees. The researcher as a sample design used non probability
sampling; specifically purposive one was used. Accordingly, a sample size of 80 staffs was
taken based on Carvalho’s sample size determination method. Method of data collection
included questioner, interview of the experts from the Enterprise at different levels. Also,
responses from the questionnaire were coded and processed by using SPSS version
20.Analysis was carried out with both descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of
this paper has shown that global carriers have a number of reasons to form strategic liner
alliances. Further Global liner alliances affect ESLSE’s container shipping business
performance from the perspectives of market, operation, strategy and economic points of
