dc.description.abstractThe objective of this research was to assess the practice of material resource management in Kolfe Keranyo Secondary and Preparatory schools of Addis Ababa sub-city. It was concerned with material management functions (such as, planning, purchasing distribution, controlling, utilization, storage, inventory control and maintenance, scrap and surplus disposal) challenges faced for effective management and utilization of educational material guidelines policies. To meet the stated objective descriptive survey method of research was used in carry out. Four groups of respondents participated in the study. These were academic and administrative staff, sub city officers and PTSA members. As of study areas, 0ne sub city and 3 schools were selected purposely. Respondents were selected by purposive sampling technique due to their direct relation with the issue under study and also to gain sufficient information. Availability and simple random sampling techniques were also employed. The data were collected through questionnaire, interviews and personal observation. Data gathered through questionnaire were quantitatively analyzed using percentage and mean value using SPSS whereas the data gathered through interview open ended questions and observation were handled through thematic analysis. Integrated material management functions were not properly implemented. Lack of training and continuous supervision in the area of educational material management, Based on these findings, it was forward some recommendation. Therefore capacitating professionals’ through training assist users in putting these materials in to effective usage. To develop positive attitude towards the management and utilization of educational materials, school managements should work closely with the school community and stakeholders. Organized and integrated education materials management system should be designed by concerned bodies to utilize and manage materials properly.en_US
