Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the status of Physical education practical class and female students’ participation in government secondary schools of wereda Tanqua Abergele. Three basic questions were raised to achieve the objective of the study. To answer those basic questions, descriptive survey research design was employed. The total population of the study was 150 high school female students. The participants of the study were selected by systematic simple random sampling techniques. Percentage and frequency counts were employed as statistical tools to analyze the data. Based on the analysis, it was found out that, the status of PE practical class and female students participation in secondary schools of Tanqua Abergele Administration was not satisfied; positive impacts were not recorded properly, and giving or taking experience and best practices to/from other schools were also problematic. Additionally, attitude of the society towards female students in Physical Education Practical Class(PEPC), lack of information about the important of PEPC, lack of appropriate facilities and equipment, lack of motivation from their teachers and family, etc. were found as the highest problems that impacts negatively. Accordingly, it is concluded in this study that the status of PE practical class in secondary schools under consideration was less than the expectation and problematic. Finally, the study recommended that making school renewal project; work with NGOs, working cooperatively with having good and continuous communication.
