| dc.description.abstract | Ethiopia proclaimed its first refugee law in 2004 by incorporating international standards and setting limits where relevant. Although it has been part of the main refugee hosting countries of the world for quite some time, the treatment it accords for refugees has been questioned with encampment practices and limit to economic and social rights being at the center. The country since has been showing its dedication joining international initiatives and making pledges to achieve global goals of finding durable solutions to refugee problems and overall burden sharing. Proclamation No. 1110/2019 has been enacted as the new refugee law of the country, repealing the law of 2004, as a show of commitment to the pledges the country has made in the global compact for refugees. This study scrutinizes the objective of the new law vis-à-vis the changes it has made and realities of the country. | |
