| dc.description.abstract | Project management has been adopted by a wide range of organizations, industry, commerce and government to handle their many and varied undertakings. Generally, projects involve many people with different skills and professions, big sum of money, limited time and resources, and unique activities to be carried out. This research paper begins with a focus on the value of general leadership and elaborates on the effectives of each leadership style. In today’s world of multitasking and constant development, leaders are a fundamental component for any organization to succeed. Leaders take on large responsibilities and move organizations forward. This thesis underlines that, in the field of project management is typically more crucial, due to the involvement and constant integration of multiple projects in organizations. The unique demand and integration of projects creates a need of having qualified project managers, in particular leader those that bring a set of positive attributes to the project and the organization. Therefore, managing a project becomes quite complex and different than managing industries, since the former has a dynamic nature. This study was to examine the relationship between leadership styles (transformational and transactional) and project performance. A set of questionnaires was administered to 52 project managers, executive directors and program officers in 18 organizations in Addis Ababa, of whom 44 were responded. Regression statistical analysis was done to explain the relationship between variables. The most salient finding was that transformational leadership styles were related to project performance.
