| dc.description.abstract | Supply Chain Management is critical to Disaster Response and Management, as it deals with getting the food and non food items needed from the source to the beneficiaries at the right time. The challenges of SCM deter the humanitarian relief organizations from meeting the objectives. Ethiopia is one of the highly disaster impacted countries. Natural and man-made disasters are common: drought, floods, and disease epidemics affect millions of people each year. This Study is carried out to identify the challenges facing humanitarian relief organizations in Ethiopia, see the effects on performance and find ways to reduce the impacts. It has mainly two major objectives: to determine the supply chain management challenges facing the humanitarian relief organizations and to determine the relationship between supply chain management challenges and performance. This research is focused on Ethiopian relief organizations. Challenges of SCM were identified from different literatures. Then, respondents consisting of 48 NGOs were asked to evaluate the severity and impact of each challenge. Findings of the research revealed that out of the selected 21 challenges lack of coordination affects the most, followed by lack of proper planning, and inadequate information sharing. Analysis was made using SPSS. Results showed that the challenges selected explain only 69.7 percent of the performance. In view of that, the researcher performed a semi structured interview with government and international relief organization managements to identify the other challenges. The analyzed new challenges are explained. | en_US |
