| dc.description.abstract | Background: Prediabetes is a state of hyperglycemia with glucose levels above the normal range but below the level of diabetes indicating a future risk for type 2 DM, which can be treated with lifestyle changes. In Ethiopia, the prevalence of Type 2 DM is 3.3% (2021) (1). And Prediabetes prevalence was 6.8% (2019) (2). If not detected early and not treated, it can lead to the development of Type 2 diabetes and diabetes related complications. Therefore, early screening and detection is crucial at Primary care level. Objective: The aim of the study is to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practice of primary health care providers (Doctors, BSC Nurses and Health officers) about Prediabetes screening and care in selected Health Centers at Lideta Sub city. Methods: Cross-sectional study was conducted on 120 eligible Health Professionals with 10% nonresponse rates (132) from August 1 to August31, 2023 at five randomly selected Health centers in Lideta Sub-city. Using structured questionnaire (Paper based and online survey form) which has four sections, questions were asked to assess KAP of Health Professionals. Then Quantitative and logistic regression analysis used to analyze data and results were interpreted. Results: A small percentage (24.2%) had good knowledge. Knowledge scores were lower for those who had practiced for more than ten years and for five to ten years than for those who had practiced for less than five years (P=0.026, P=0.002). 79.5% of respondents correctly answered the two practice questions, and 68.9% of respondents had a positive attitude toward Prediabetes screening. Conclusions: Knowledge of Prediabetes screening and care were low as year of practice increased and higher as Profession level increased. Attitude towards were better among Health professionals. PCPs had good practice of recommending Lifestyle management. | |
