dc.description.abstract | Project management is used as a significant skill in many industries. For this reason, the knowledge of projects and their management are of high importance. Project risk management is the process of identifying, analyzing and then responding to any risk that arises over the life cycle of a project to help the project remain on track and meet its goal. Poor risk management as a whole is one of the major aspects causing projects to collapse, and this has become an obstacle to each and every project that is being developed nowadays. The healthcare industry faces many of the same challenges as other industries, with some very particular stress points. Ethiopian Public Health Institute have completed and now also implementing various health care projects with different constraints including scope, time, cost, quality and risk in order to improve quality of health care and enhance the capacity of the health sector at all levels of the system. The main objective of this study was to assess the risk management practices in health care projects under Ethiopian Public Health Institute. Descriptive research design was used to answer the extent of risk management practice in health care projects and to see the associated factors affecting the risk management practice. The target population for this study was all members of the project and other related officers in Ethiopian Public Health Institute from which the sample population was drawn by using purposive sampling technique. This study used both primary and secondary data source and quantitative method to address the objective of the study by using self administered questionnaires as a data collection tool. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS version.20 software, which entails calculating frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and variability. As the finding of this study, the risk management practice in various projects in Ethiopian public health institute mainly the risk planning, identification, analysis, response & monitoring was moderately implemented with the average mean score of 3.20 and SD of 1.23. However, the utilization of risk management tools and techniques to manage the project risk were very low with a mean score and standard deviation 2.58 & 0.93 respectively. Regarding policy and strategies most of the respondents disagree and uncertain on the presence of policy or guideline that recommend how to manage unexpected uncertainties and standard risk management practices in these project organization. Thus this study recommends that standard risk management practice should be backed with strategies and guidelines and implemented at every stage of the project by integrating with the project plan and with the involvement of all project team members and stakeholders. | en_US |
