Abstract
Solid waste, which is a consequence of day-to-day activity of human kind, needs to be managed properly. Addis Ababa City, like other cities in developing countries, faces problems associated with poorly managed solid waste operation& logistics. This study concerns about assessment of the city’s current municipal solid waste management& logistics system problems. The survey was conducted inKirkossub city in Addis Ababa. Different sampling methods were employed to select the study units including: Random sampling, observation and purposive sampling. Both qualitative quantitative &data werecollected, it was information collected through survey and secondary sources also used. The study discovered that there is low performance of SWM in the sub city mainly due to: lack of properly designed collection system and time schedule, inadequate and malfunctioning operation equipment, throwingof refuse to the nearby rivers, poor condition of the final dumpsite , absence recycling, absence of waste recovery, practice of energy option, waste separation andcomposting are among the management challenges facing the sub city. Finally, the study forwarded some important recommendations towards improving the waste management practices
