| dc.description.abstract | At this point of time, there is no vocabulary control device in any form that can serve the purpose of depth-indexing of micro-documents. This study centers round the design and development of an online alphabetical thesaurus of terms on "Islamic Law". It can be used for searching and retrieval of bibliographic references, as well as the profiles of organizations and institutions, projects and experts. A device which can serve the purpose of depth-indexing of micro-documents can at the same time serve the purpose of indexing macro-documents. For the purpose of developing the alphabetical thesaurus, a systematic thesaurus has been developed first by using the faceted approach to the extent necessary and sufficient. In addition, the standard procedures for the construction of alphabetical thesaurus as prescribed by different authorities have been followed to the extent warranted. A thesaurus database containing records ofterms on "Islamic Law" has been developed. The structure of the online version of the OECD macrothesaurus called "Thes" has been used for this purpose. For the purpose of online maintenance and use of the thesaurus an application programmer called "Theshi", an improved version of the "ThesProgram", that comes with Micro CDSIISIS software, has been used. Necessary print and sort worksheets have been designed for generating the alphabetical thesaurus from the database . The "Vocon.Pas Program" , developed at SISA, has been used to demonstrate the use of the thesaurus for indexing. | en_US |
