Abstract
The main purpose of this study was 10 assess (h e mall agemel1l of s elr cOilloille!l ci os ."/()(} ii i
tea ching in Addis Ababa Gavenllll enr prill/OI )' schools.
The subjects of the st udy were two hundred /ourreen (i.e . J 60 reachers alld 54 sc hool
manageme nt bodies) drawn from the ten sa mple primw)' sch ools, selec tin g olle frOIl/ each
sub-city, of Addis Ababa. Tea chers and school management bodies were selected /I s in g
systematic salllpling t echnique and availability sa lllpling techniqu e respectiv ely. Three
kinds of data collection ills trum e nts were used in this s tudy, nam ely; qu es tion naire,
observation and int e rview. Th e d a ta co llected usin g these in struments were analyzed by
making use of different sta tistica l analysis m eth ods and qualitative description, such as
frequen cy counting p ercentage, mean and description of some qualitative data .
Th e findings (i.e . the results) indicated that th e manage ment of self-contain ed classrooln
teachin g system in Addis Ababa c ity governm ent was found to be un sa tisfa ctor y. Thi s
happen ed mainly du e to lack of well-trained manpo we r and in availability of appropriate
reso urce and facilities and poor l1Ianagerial co mpetence. For this rea son, th e sys telll was
not properly ill/plell/ented. Co nsequen tly, the Addis Ababa Edu catio n Bureoll is expected
