dc.description.abstractChildren have the right to get a regular, quality and diverse media programs that can enhance their physical, social and mental development. The study aims to examineparents’ perception of “Ethiopis” children TV program: The case of EBS TV in Addis Ababa. The study specifically attempts to examine the perception of parents on programs of children on EBS television, identify program preference of parents for their children and explore the challenges of program producers at EBS in production of children programs. The study employed descriptive research design. The study used questionnaire and in-depth interview as instruments for data collection. Multi-stage followed by systematic random sampling was used to select a sample of 84 parents for the survey. Additionally, 4 children program producers were purposively selected for the in-depth interview. Collected data was coded, cleaned and categorized manually by researcher and transferred to computer sheet and processed manually. The data were then analyzed using basic statistics such as frequency distribution and percentages. The findings of study showed that from 84 respondents 47(56%) of parents’ mostly and attentively watch” Ethiopis” program on EBS and make discussions with their children after watching the program. Besides, it was found that 69 (82.1%) of the parents had positive perception towards the attractiveness of the program. The study concluded that parents had positive attitude towards “Ethiopis” Children TV program with all its limitations. The study recommends broadcasting authority to control appropriateness and relevance of children’s programs; Children program producers to consider the level of their program based on the life style of the majority, parental involvement in television watching in order to offer guidance and consideration of policy that provide capacity building for children program producers in areas relating to advertising proclamation on children programsen_US
