Abstract
This study focuses on content analysis of ethical dilemma of news in OBN Afaan Oromo coverage. The main purpose of this study is to trace the most frequent ethical dilemmas that have been witnessed in OBN. To do this, qualitative content analysis and in-depth interview were utilized. Qualitatively collected data have been numerically listed and SPSS software was being used for tabulation. Data were selected by purposive sampling method from OBN Television archive, ranging from January 2023 to December 2023(twelve months) evening news. Twenty bulletins and three news from each bulletins selected, which are 60 news in general. The selected news was carefully diagnosed to trace the witnessed ethical dilemmas. The collected data were carefully analyzed to trace ethical fault lines and subsequent underlying factors. Social responsibility theory was employed as a theoretical frame work. The finding of this research shows violation of ethical guidelines and prevailing dilemmas in most of OBN Afaan Oromo coverage. Several problems that are pertinent to ethics have been surfaced. These are government intervention, relying on a single source, bias, lack of objectivity and responsibility, lack of balance and tonal favoritism are key ethical bottle neck witnessed in OBN. Based on this finding key mitigation mechanism have been put in palace as a way forward.
