dc.description.abstractThis study had assessed the gap that exists in law and practice at federal courts. Empirical legal research method was employed while undertaking the research. Data was gathered from Federal first instance court and federal public prosecutors offices of selected branches using structured interviews, non -participant observation, court records as primary data and legal documents, academic literatures and reports were used as secondary source of data. It is discovered that there is actual gap in law but the practice is in-line with child corporal punishment international laws to some extent. However, the practice had ignored principle of legality issue for parents. From the findings, the researcher concluded that law reform shall be taken by criminalizing all forms of corporal punishment and had indicated future research areas that will enhance the law reform goal towards attainment of the human right children
