dc.description.abstract | The central focus of this study was to assess the satisfaction of audiences with Addis Television youths’ program. The study tried to see the extent to which the program gratifies youths and for what reasons or purposes that they watch the program. Moreover, the study also attempted to examine the content and presentation of youths’ program and know whether the preferences of the youths’are exactly addressed or met. To generate appropriate data for the study purposive or judgment sampling technique and questionnaires and semi-structured interview were used. The researcher believed that this deliberate selection of participants was helpful to get the right viewers of the program as the preliminary study that indicates the expected result on the study. This was done with the collaboration of the youths’ main office and sub cities associations’ leaders. This was done by using Snowball sampling that used a small pool of youth initial informants to nominate, through their social networks, other participants who meet the eligibility criteria and could potentially contribute to a specific study. Before administration of the actual questionnaire, pilot survey was made on the four selected sub cities using 30 purposively selected audiences. Based on the results of pilot study, the actual questionnaires were distributed to 300 respondents; individual semi-structured interview was also made with twenty participants, a producer and an editor of the program. After the researcher collected all the data using the designed questionnaires and semi-structured interview from the selected samples, he brought them together and placed the responses into percentage and made analysis. Moreover, the results of the study were examined in contrast to the objectives of the research. The findings of the data showed that Addis television youths’ program audiences watch the program for different reasons. Many of the respondents could not get credible information, and learn about things in the world from it. But, they were watching it because of their habit. Therefore, the overall results of this study show that audience satisfaction of the program was very poor. Based on the findings, recommendations are suggested on how to improve the program to gratify the audiences. | en_US |
