Abstract
The title of the research is institutional coordination for the effectiveness of EIA implementation
with in the federal government of Ethiopia
The main objective of this research is to evaluate the existing coordination process between
sectoral institutions and FEPA for effective EIA implementation. To achieve this objective data
was collected from primary and secondary sources through questionnaires, interview guidelines
and document review. The collected data was analyzed by cross checking the accounts of
respondents against other respondents and with the documents. Generally interpretation method
is used to analyze the data.
the effectiveness of the coordination process have been evaluated by using parameters like the
institutions set up and capacity, the level of communication, the commitment level and the power
structure of the participating institutions. The finding suggest that the existing coordination
process between the participating institutions is not effective oppose to the law and the ambition
of the government.
In order to rectify the flaws the research suggested that the participating institutions need to
rectify or improve the capacity, communication, commitment and power structure of the
participating institutions in order to effectively integrate EIA in the institutions decision making
process. This will help to improve the coordination process and as a result to achieve the
sustainable development objective of the country.
