| dc.description.abstract | This master’s thesis aims to understand the role of French in Ethiopia and its use in the fields of journalism, diplomacy and teaching. The major objective of this research is to identify the importance and role of French in Ethiopia, as well as its use in the didactic and diplomatic fields and its diffusion in the Ethiopian Medea. Journalists indicate that the French language plays a significant role in Ethiopia. However, challenges remain, such as the lack of qualified human resources and broadcasting infrastructures dedicated to French. The data we obtained from EBC journalists underlines the importance of promoting the use of French for the socio-economic development of the country, by recruiting more French speakers and ensuring the adequacy of programs. The results obtained from personnel working in the diplomatic field indicate that the French language plays an important role in the Ethiopian diplomatic relationship. It is also essential in diplomatic and cultural interactions between Ethiopia and French-speaking countries. This indicates that it will be necessary to strengthen the teaching of French in Ethiopia. In addition, most of the French unit teachers who participated in the questionnaires underline the importance and role of French in various sectors in Ethiopia, such as tourism, journalism and diplomacy. Our study is based on a qualitative methodology, with data collected through interviews and questionnaires. The findings of this research highlight the crucial importance of French in various sectors in Ethiopia, despite challenges related to its use and lack of qualified personnel. These results highlight the need to strengthen French teaching in Ethiopia to achieve significant results in the fields of diplomacy, journalism and teaching.
