In doing so, the thesis looks into the programs and activities of the Council and their practical role on the protection, promotion and respect of human rights, and its contributions in changing the behavior of the government of Ethiopia and other stockholders over the years. Accordingly, the thesis demonstrates that EHRCO’s role in monitoring and reporting of human rights violations in Ethiopia, practical problems that hinder the effectiveness of the Council in the protection, promotion and respect of human rights in Ethiopia. In the end, the thesis tries to forward some helpful recommendations that, if properly implemented, would better equip EHRCO with technical and professional capacity in its endeavor as well as that could help the government to realize its duty i.e.to respect, protect and fulfil human rights in Ethiopia.
