Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the Monitoring and Evaluation Practices of Digital-Banking projects in the Case of Awash International Bank. It focused on Digital Banking which is banking through the digital platform, doing away with all the paperwork like cheques, pay-in slips, Demand Drafts, etc. where there is the availability of all banking activities online that involves digitizing all traditional banking products, processes, and activities to serve customers through online channels. Thus; in a specific way, this study examined the role of Monitoring and Evaluation Practices of Digital-Banking projects in the case of Awash International Bank which focus on digital banking services such as; Internet/Online Banking, Mobile Banking solution, Agent Banking, and Card banking services through ATM and POS terminals. The study used a descriptive research design, and both qualitative and quantitative methods are applied to the data collection. As a result, both primary and secondary data were gathered from the directors, managers, and officers of the IT department at the head office level as well as various documentation. Questionnaires and interviews were used as data-gathering tools. While descriptive statistics, frequency tables, and percentages are used to analyze the quantitative data, thematic analysis is used to analyze the qualitative data. The analysis reveals that the bank has not set up reliable monitoring and evaluation systems and has a number of challenges when putting monitoring and evaluation into practice. The study's findings are also discussed, along with recommendations. Awash Bank S.C. will therefore need to make changes in the future to organize the IT department, assign a project manager, and restructure its organizational structure in addition to implementing an effective monitoring and assessment system for digital banking projects. Additionally, it is advised that the Bank provide training and include a manual for monitoring and evaluating the procedure. In regard to this, the purpose of this study is to find out how monitoring and evaluation activities contribute to the success of the Digital Banking project, particularly in the context of Awash Bank, where there hasn't been any research on the subject and the bank will gain from this study
