dc.description.abstractThe primary purpose of the study was to investigate language use and language attitude in Aleta Wondo Woreda.To conduct these study different research participants were involved. The main data gathering tool was questionnaires and focus group discussion, interview, and observation were used as supplementary instruments for data collection. The collected data was analyzed through both qualitative and quantitative methods. In quantitative method frequencies and percentage were employed. Data from open ended questions counts, interview and focus group discussion were analyzed qualitatively. The result obtained shows that socioeconomic and political factors attribute multilingualism in Aleta Wondo Woreda. Different Sidaama MT speakers are bilingual in Amharic to a greater extent. Amharic MT speaker is bilingual to a certain extent in Sidaama language .Amharic more frequently used language the Sidaama MT children than others language and rather than to any other age groups. Sidaama language is more frequently used as the second language of the young and children. There is a greater tendency to shift from Sidaama language, Gurage, Afan-Oromo, Tigrigna etc languages to the Amharic language. Languages such as Amharic, Sidaama language, Afan-Oromo, Wolayita, Wolane, Tigrigna, Dorze, Silitie, Gurage Kambata are used in Aleta Wondo Woreda in different domains. Amharic and Sidaama languages are most frequently used across different domains. These are family, neighbor, school religion, recreation, security administration, market, health, court. Amharic is the major language of inter-group communication. Sidaama language is largely used in friend ship domains in the recreational centers in the study area. Sidaama language and Amharic language are predominantly languages of different outdoor domains and some sector offices are as working language with Sidaama and Amharic languages are alternatively.en_US
