dc.description.abstractReading in the 21first century networked society is no longer confined to the print reading .The scope of the reading has extended to new media tools like Facebook ,twitter, and you tube that changes the traditional newspaper reading culture ,practice, habit and choice of the reader. This research is conducted to identify the influence of new media on newspaper reading habit. The researchers found that with the advent of new media reading habit of newspaper decrease from time to time. Questionnaire and in-depth- interview was used as data collection tools by using both quantitative and quantitative research method. An analysis of data from a survey of almost 300 academic staffs of Addis Ababa University shows that respondents are turning away from reading newspapers as a source of information and news to new media. The finding of this study show that the average time spent reading newspapers is from 30 minutes -1 hour once per week while the average time spent on using new media is from 30 minutes -1 hour per day from those respondents who use new media and read newspaper. In this scenario, academic staffs of Addis Ababa University with astrong need for news and information from new media like Facebook, twitter and YouTube they adopt new media for the purpose of satisfying their information by reducing their reading habit of newspaper. Finally the researcher based on the finding of the study suggests possible recommendation for the problem.en_US
