The study was carried out in non-capital towns of Gulomekada woreda which is found in Tigray National Regional State with the main objective of investigating extent and determinants of multidimensional poverty in Zalambesa and Sebeya towns. To attain the aforementioned objective, cross-sectional survey design was employed. The, primary data was collected from 210 randomly selected sample households by proportionally allocating to both towns using survey questionnaire. In addition, key informant interview and observation were employed to generate qualitative data from the selected primary sources. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the extent of multidimensional poverty and binary logistic regression was employed to look into determinants of household multidimensional poverty. Alkire-Foster (AF method) was used to analyze the multidimensional poverty by using three dimensions and eleven indicators. Accordingly, incidence, intensity, multidimensional poverty index (MPI), raw headcount ratio, censored headcount ratio and contribution of each poverty indicators to the poor people were computed. The result revealed that the extent of overall multidimensional poor was 31.4% of the sample households’ with the intensity and MPI of 46.4% and 15% respectively. From the selected indicators, year of schooling (32.5%), and illness/ disability and morbidity/ (23.9%) were the highest contributors to the overall poverty incidence in the towns. The result of Binary logistic regression model revealed that family size, addiction, health problem, expenditure on health and person per room (crowdedness) were statistically significant determinants for the household multidimensional poverty. Based on the major findings, enhancing economic performances of the community and strengthening access to education are recommended. In addition to this, disease prevention endeavor is one of the vibrant recommendations to alleviate the poverty status of the community.en_US
