Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine factors affecting entrepreneurial intention among final year management and accounting students at Addis Ababa University by integrating the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) with three personality traits: risk taking propensity (RTP), locus of control (LoC) and proactive personality. A cross-sectional quantitative research design was employed. A total of 216 questionnaires were distributed, from which 147 questionnaires were returned and used for analysis. The data was analyzed using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) through SmartPLS4. The findings indicated that attitude toward entrepreneurship (ATE), perceived behavioral control (PBC), locus of control (LoC) and proactive personality (PP) had positive and statistically significant effect on entrepreneurial intention (EI), while subjective norm (SN) and risk taking propensity (RTP) did not have statistically significant effect. The mediation analysis showed that ATE mediated the relationship between all three personality traits and EI, whereas PBC mediated only the relationship between LoC and EI. SN did not mediate any of the relationships. The findings suggest that improving student’s perception of entrepreneurship, enhancing their entrepreneurial knowledge and capabilities may encourage them to engage in entrepreneurial activities.
