| dc.description.abstract | Recidivism among male children in conflict with law has become a widespread occurrence in Ethiopia among most adolescents. Research focusing on aspects of recidivism in Ethiopia has emphasized on economic and social factors; being from poor families is pointed out as a major reasons behind recidivism, though this is not enough to conclude unless the causes of recidivism are systematically investigated. Thus, this study with the objective of exploring recidivism among male children in conflict with the law, engage at identifying factors related to recidivism. The study participants of this study are nine recidivist male children in conflict with law and key informants from Addis Ababa Women’s, Children and Youth Affairs Bureau Rehabilitation Center for Children in Conflict with the Law. Findings of this study indicate that drug subculture, peer pressure, being orphan, street life, child maltreatment, divorce, poor family economy and negative community attitude and lack of sufficient follow up and assistance up on release made children to recidivate a crime. At the end, the study concludes by recommending all relevant parties working to reduce the incidence of recidivism among children in conflict with the law.
