dc.description.abstract | The main purpose of this work was to study assessment of photo-Fenton process (Fe /H2O2/UV) for the removal of pesticide from wastewater. Synthetic wastewater from 2,4Dichlorophenoxyacetic was prepared and characterized for its organic matter content and also it PH and turbidity which has a significant effect on the degradation process. Box-Benkhen design response-surface methodology was developed to optimize photo-Fenton degradation of 2,4Dichlorophenoxyacetic in which UV light radiation was used as a source of light. The three variables considered in Box-Benkhen design model included initial 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic [2,4-D], hydrogen peroxide [H2O2] and Ferrous iron [Fe 2+ ] concentrations. The removal efficiency was expressed in terms of total organic carbon (TOC) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) percentage removal. The optimum values of 94.7 mg/L 2,4-D, 22.78 mg/L Fe 2+ , 156.4 mg/L H2O2 were obtained by optimizing the variables using Box-Benkhen design that the data was analyzed after carrying out each experiment for 2 hours at room temperature. The photo-Fenton process led to 85% TOC removal and 96% COD removal thereby showing the effectiveness of using photo-Fenton process for the removal of pesticide from wastewater. | en_US |
