Abstract
The main objective of this study is about juvenile crime and juvenile delinquency administration
in Yeka Sub City of Addis Ababa City Administration. A random sampling method was used to
select a sample of 29 respondents. Data was presented and analyzed using descriptive technique.
Based on the findings of this study, the researcher has reached the following conclusions.
Firstly, the Sub City administration has faced problems to address the problems of juvenile
delinquency because of lack of coordination and collaboration within the structures in the Sub
City administration. Secondly, absence of trained manpower, lack of funding, lack of advocacy,
absence of professionals, absence of research and absence of media outlet. Thirdly, the research
has also identified implementation problems, information and management problems, lack of
follow up, and the inability to build capacity and strengthen the structures in Yeka Sub City
administration. The researcher recommended that Yeka Sub City administration should improve
the administration in order to achieve standards set by Yeka Sub City and City Government of
Addis Ababa, the Ministry of Health and other relevant organizations. Moreover, Yeka Sub City
must also revise and introduce a comprehensive system that can pull together the administration
for youth and children. The Sub city should up-date all existing, outdated procedures/systems to
reflect and incorporate the principles of international standards of juvenile administration. Yeka
Sub City must equip itself with capable personnel for the proper treatment of youth problems.
It must also work for a well-designed and compiled data/information system to further
investigate and to make better decisions and conduct studies. It should also work to develop
partnerships and coordination to achieve more harmonization in the units and structures of the
Sub City administration. Finally, more updated and planned administration is therefore needed
in order to achieve its objective of educating and re-integrating children with a view of assisting
them to assume socially constructive and productive roles in society.
