Voltage control of power distribution systems is very important to ensure quality power supply to the customers. The potential applications of flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices, such as the Static Var Compensators (SVCs) play a major role in voltage regulation due to its fast response and high capability. Thus, it becomes necessary to study the use of SVCs for distribution system voltage control under normal operating conditions. In this thesis, voltage control of Kality II 15 kV distribution substation using Static Var Compensators (SVCs) is investigated. Data collection and analysis is carried out to study the voltage profile and control of Kality II substation. SVCs modeling and simulation studies have been carried out using DIgSILENT software. Simulation studies with and without SVCs has been performed for different scenarios of SVCs Configurations, such as FC-TCR (Fixed Capacitor-Thyristor Controlled Reactor) and TCR-TSC (Thyristor Controlled Reactor - Thyristor Switched Capacitor), to analyze its effect on voltage profile. The simulation results reveal that the maximum voltage drop of 0.06pu (6%) occurs without use of SVC whereas the voltage profile is improved from 0.94pu to 0.97pu with the implementation of the proposed SVC. Thus, based on the findings of this research, it is concluded that SVCs may be implemented for improvement of voltage profile of distribution substations.en_US
