dc.description.abstractThe tourism sector has been challenged with the problem of attracting and retaining quality employees globally. It is essential to understand the perceptions of tourism employment if today's students are to become the effective practitioners of tomorrow. This thesis examines final year TVET students’ perception towards the future job in the tourism sector in the context of Catering and Tourism Training Institute (CTTI). The study employs theoretical model of Kusluvan and Kusluvan’s (2000) on perception to assess Ethiopian students’ future career opportunities in the tourism sector. The main aim of the study is to assess the perception of students towards working in the tourism industry. Data were collected through survey questionnaire. About 169 questionnaires were distributed to final year Catering and Tourism students of CTTI. The data were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 version. Descriptive analyses; mean and standard deviation were employed to measure respondents’ perception towards future job and commitment towards working in the tourism industry. Independent sample t-test and Anova were used to test statistically whether significant differences or correlation occur between the respondents’ perception and incidents variables (region and department). According to this study Catering and Tourism Training Institute (CTTI) students’ perceptions of tourism career were generally positive and the students have currently strong commitment towards working in the tourism industryen_US
