Abstract

ABSTRACT During the pandemic of COVID-19, mass vaccination programmers are public health achievements of the contemporary world. While pharmaceutical companies are actively developing new vaccines, and demonstrating results of effectiveness and safety profiles, concerns on effective distribution performance of COVID-19 vaccine are under-reported. Supply chain management practice is the most important tools that organizations use to develop their performance. The main objective of this study was to assess the effect of supply chain management practices (partnership, supplier relationship, customer relationship, information sharing, logistics management and storage and inventory) on distribution performance of COVID-19 vaccine in Addis Ababa Health Bureau. A quantitative research approach was used to examine the effect of supply chain management practices and distribution performances at Addis Ababa Health Bureau. Descriptive and explanatory research design was employed for the study. Data were collected from 72 employees working in Addis Ababa Health Bureau supply chain management department who are working directly in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine. The data analysis results show that; storage and inventory management practices have a positive and significant impact on distribution performance of COVID-19 vaccine at Addis Ababa Health Bureau. While partnership, supplier relationship, customer relationship, information sharing and logistics management are not significantly affecting performance. The organization has to improve storage and inventory management practices to improve the distribution performance of COVID-19 vaccine. From the seven open ended questions most respondents suggested that cold chain management is one of the issue of COVID-19 vaccines distribution.
