The aim of this study was to evaluate the practice of beat reporting in EBC/ETV Amharic news service. For the study, descriptive type of research design was used. Data was collected using in depth interview, focused group discussion and document analysis; and the collected data was analyzed qualitatively. Based on the analysis, the findings of the study showed that practicing specialized/beat reporting has good ground in documents but not found practically, the news rooms operate based on similarly organized themes where reports chose their areas of interest. From the findings it can be concluded that noactual beat reporting was found practically except in documents. Based on the conclusions of the study it was forwarded that the EBC reporters, higher officials, the government and other media owners should work on specialized/beat reporting in order to satisfy the needs of their audiences.en_US
