Abstract
Problem statement: In Ayder referral hospital, there is no well-organized system for the management of medical equipment.
Objective: The overall objective of the project is to improve medical equipment management by increasing the percentage of EHRIG standards pertaining to medical equipment management met and by increasing medical equipment repaired by the end of April, 2012.
Result: The percentage of functional medical equipment showed at improvement from 72(72.7%)to 82(83.8%).
Compliance with EHRIG standards for medical equipment management (operational standards met)increased from 3 to 5 out of 9(33.3% to 55.6%).
Conclusion: Sustainable provision of trainings on medical equipment operation and handling can result in a significant improvement in medical equipment functionality.
Moreover, establishing medical equipment maintenance work agreements has a great impact in the management of medical equipment and also adherence to the Ethiopian hospitals reform implementation guideline can bring about improved management of medical equipment in health facilities.
Recommendation: Full implementation of the Ethiopian hospitals reform implementation guideline strategies should be made and it is better to establish medical equipment maintenance work agreements with experienced companies.
