dc.description.abstract | A simple, sensitive and selective electrochemical method for determination of catechol has been developed at a glassy carbon electrode modified with single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and poly (3, 4 ethylendioxythiophene) (PEDOT) conducting polymer through the oxidation of catechol. The oxidation potential of catechol on the SWCNTs/PEDOT/GC modified electrode was much lower and the oxidation currents were higher compared to the bare electrode. Under the optimum conditions, the differential pulse voltammetric current of the sensor was linear in the concentration range 6 – 100 μM with a detection limit of 0.18 μM. The detection limit is comparable or better than many electrochemical methods currently reported for catechol determination, and the sensor is cheaper and easier for fabrication. The sensor was not only convenient for quantifying catechol in the presence of common interferences but also capable of detection in tea samples and tap water.
