Abstract
The study aims at assessment of training and development practices in
private organizations (case study on OMEDAD PLC) with due emphasis
on practices of TD needs assessment, TD methods, and evaluation of TD
effectiveness. Accordingly, all the necessary data has been gathered
from primary sources using questionnaires and interviews. Stratified
sampling technique was used and the number of participants was 38
manager and non-manager employees. The researcher used descriptive
analysis with the help of tables and percentages to analyze the data. The
study revealed that the major weaknesses of the company in training and
development practices being lack of periodical and balanced method of
TD needs assessment, imbalance between on-the-job and off-the-job
method of trainings, absence of trainees evaluation practice at different
phases, and absence of evaluating the effectiveness of TD activities. The
strengths being practicality of technical trainings, cooperation of
existing staff to train new employees, and belief of top level management
on the importance of TD to organizational performance. Hence, the
Company need to keep up with its strengths and alleviate its weaknesses
by adopting a systematic approach of TD practices.
